Keeping Active and Social in Monifieth
Staying active and connected to your community becomes more important as we get older — and Monifieth Community Centre is here to support that. We offer a range of activities and groups specifically suited to older adults, designed to promote physical wellbeing, social connection, and mental stimulation in a friendly, welcoming environment.
Why Community Activities Matter
Research consistently shows that social isolation is one of the most significant challenges facing older adults. Regular participation in group activities can help to combat loneliness, maintain cognitive function, and improve overall quality of life. Our programmes are designed with this in mind, offering something for everyone regardless of mobility or fitness level.
Activities Available at the Centre
Seated Exercise Classes
Our seated exercise sessions are ideal for those who may have mobility challenges or are recovering from an injury or illness. Led by an experienced instructor, these classes focus on gentle movement, coordination, and strength — all from the comfort of a chair. They're also a great social occasion, with plenty of chat and laughter alongside the exercise!
Craft and Social Club
Join fellow enthusiasts for a relaxed session of knitting, sewing, or other crafts. The social club meets regularly and welcomes people of all skill levels — from complete beginners to those with years of experience. It's as much about the conversation as it is about the craft.
Walking Group
Monifieth is fortunate to be surrounded by beautiful Angus countryside and coastline. Our walking group meets at the community centre before heading out on gentle, accessible local routes. All walks are graded by difficulty so you can choose what suits you best.
Community Lunch
A hot, home-cooked lunch served in a sociable setting. This is a popular weekly fixture for many of our older members and is a wonderful way to meet new people while enjoying a nutritious meal at a very reasonable cost.
How to Find Out More
If you or someone you know would benefit from any of these activities, please pop into the centre during opening hours or call us to speak with a member of our friendly team. We can help you find the right activity and make sure your first visit feels comfortable and welcoming.
All of our activities for older adults are designed to be inclusive — you don't need to be fit, experienced, or confident to join. We start where you are.
